Moolavar - Sri Muruganatheeswarar

Muruganatheswarar Temple is situated at Mambakkam in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. This temple is said to be is over 800 Years old. But 12th to 14th century epigraph is at the base of moolavar wall. This temple has several images of fishes on the ceiling, so most probably this temple was built by the Pandya Kings.
This temple has its own bunch of epitaphs. And this comes under the Hindu Religious Endowment Board. And the most unusual part of this temple is that its made of limestone and a kind of a brick and not the typical granite that every temple of that era was made of.
Thirukkulam is in front and the sanctuary is facing east. There is no rajagopuram and Dwajasthambam. Ambal Deiva Nayagi is in standing stance with abaya and varadha hastham. Goddess Deiva Nayagi model was etched by the figure who had a place with the same vamsavali of the stone worker who shaped the Thirukkadaiyur Abirami Ambal. There is additionally a sannidhi for Sri Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Samedha Sri Subramaniyar and Navagrahas

This temple is under Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, but individual devotees can contribute for daily pooja and temple development.
