Amman: Sri Jalakandeswari

Varuna lingam is the 5th lingam amongst the  Astalingams located around Thiruverkkadu vedapureeswarar sivan temple. This temple is located around paddy fields in natural surroundings. How ever this sivalingam is kept in a temporary shed.Regular Pooja's are being conducted and well maintained.  Ambal jalakandeswari is facing south.

Varuna is the God and regent of the  cardinal direction of the WEST as a Lokapala and Dikapala. He is also one of the most prominent god revered and a powerful deity from the Vedic times. Lord of cosmic justice and the Sky. He is also known as Mitra and is prayed to, for water and rains.

This Lingam could be presumed to be from the time of the reign of the great CHOLA King KULOTHUNGA CHOLA II, (1133 - 1150 CE) about 800 years ago or more and must have  passed through many dynasties. Did the great King build a temple here? Atleast there is no proof of the same.

Sri Paleeswarar Temple (Niruddhi Lingam), Thiruverkadu

Moolavar: Sri Paleeswarar

Amman: Balambigai Amman

This is the Nirudhilingam of the Ashtalingams that is around the Vedapureeswarar of Mangadu. It is presumed to be from the time of the reign of the great CHOLA King KULOTHUNGA CHOLA II, (1133 - 1150 CE) about 800 years ago or more and must have  passed through many dynasties.

The temple is in a fairly large compound, without a Rajagopuram,on entrance you can find a small but beautiful Nandi Mandapam with Nandin. After this is the mukhamandapam with multiple pillars decorated with fascinating sculptures.

On the far end of this Mandapam is a small antarala which leads to the Garbhgriha of the Lord as a Lingam facing east known as BALEESHWARAR. To his left is the sanctum of Goddess Parvati as BALAMBIGAI. On circumambulation the Koshtha walls of the Garbhgriha is lined up with Vinayaka,Dakshinamurthy,Lingothbhavar,Brahma & Durga.

There is a shrine for Kalabhairava in the precinct. The temple is well maintained.

The word Nirhti means devoid of "Rta". ( In the Vedic scriptures "Rta" is the natural order of functioning of the Universe and everything that is contained in it. The guardian of absence of Cosmic disorder. Nirhti is mentioned in the Rigveda, for seeking protection from herself. As per the Shatapatha Brahmana she is the regent of the SOUTH - WEST quarter of the cardinal directions and is one of the Eight and only goddess Dikapala. In Puranic stories she is known as ALAKSHMI the opposite of LAKSHMI. Lakshmi married Mahavishnu & Alakshmi married Shiva. During the churning of the Ocean, Alakshmi came first and then came Lakshmi

A very old Sivalingam with square Avudayar with very old Nandhi is all that is there in a palalayam and the main temple with all Sannidhis are getting constructed. There is separate Sannidhi for Pillayar alone now and Dhakshinamoorthy facing south in the goshtam of the newly constructed grabhagraham.

In the same premise, there is a Pazhandi Amman who is the Grama devathai of Perumbakkam.
Also, there is a temple for Sridevi and Bhoodevi sametha Sri Sathyanarayana Perumal. In the praharam there is a separate Sannidhi for Anjaneyar.

On the back of all these temples is a beautiful Lotus pond with padithurai and lot of fishes. People visit here in the evenings to feed the fishes.

The temple is on the Perumbakkam main road itself and can be easily accessed.
