Sri Jambukeshwarar Temple, Korattur, Chennai

Moolavar:Sri Jambukeshwarar
Amman:Sri Akhilandeswari Ambal

A nearly 1000 years old temple in midst of the residential locality of Korattur. Swamy Sri Jambugeswarar Sannidhi is facing east and Ambal Akhilandeswari is facing south. There are 2 entrances both from east as well as south to this temple.

Few unique things about this temple is there are twin vinayagar outside Sivan Sannidhi and you can also see Murugan with his consorts valli and deivayanai. You can see lot of Siddharas carved on the pillars showing that this place has been worshipped by siddhars in the past. One of the famous siddhar Sri kakabhujandar also can be seen on one of the pillars.

As far as the inscription goes there are  only 2 pillars near Ambal Sannidhi with full of inscriptions. Within the inner prakaram you have Sannidhi for Nalvar, kalabiravar and suryan. The ceiling has the snake and moon carved representing that this could have been a parihara sthalam.

Interestingly there is no vimanam for both Ambal and Swamy and the outer Praharam of the moolavar Sannidhi is in the gajabrishtam or semi-circular model. There are no ghoshta murthies outside. It is said that there was a dhwajasthambam earlier and in time it got destroyed and a new one has not replaced yet.

The outer praharam is fairly big and it has lot of trees including vilvam, pavazhamalli, jambu tree etc. Also you can see separate Sannidhi for Navagrahas.
