A very old Temple in the beautiful village of porpandal (translated literally as golden roof) The temple is believed to be constructed during Vijayanagara Period ie 16th to 17th Century.
The temple facing east with an entrance arch / Rajagopuram base and Deepa sthambam on the south side. Nataraja with Sivagami and Utsavars are at the entrance. There is no images in the Koshtam. Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar are in the mandapam. Two Rishabas are in one mandapam and a balipeedam are on the east side of the temple.
Two Shiva Lingas, of which one is in the sanctum sanctorum and the damaged one is installed in the antarala. Also there are two Ambals in separate sannidhis facing south. In the two Ambals one Ambal is found damaged.
Thirunavukkarau Swamigal has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of Agatheechuram along with Nandhikechuram, Mahalaechuram, Nagechuram, Kodeechuram, Kondeechuram, Kukkudechuram, Akkeechuram, Adakechuram, Ayaneechuram Aththeechuram, Siddheechuram and Ramechuram. Whether this temple is includes in this hymns is not known.
The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, Antarala, ardha mandapam, Maha mandapam and a Mukha mandapam. The temple and the entrance arch are constructed with bricks. A 3 tier Vesara vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. The Stucco images on the Vimana are still in good shape.
