Sri Picheeswarar Swamy Temple, Mamundur, Thiruvannamalai

Moolavar: Sri Picheeswarar swamy
Amman:Sri Nagavalli Ambal

A beautiful shiva temple at Mamandur a small village located very close to Palar River and situated on the road from Kanchipuram to Vandavasi. It is located at about 15 Kms from Kanchipuram. This temple is believed to built by Rajendra Cholan and easily is over 800 years.

Many years ago when Sadguru Venkatraman was going to  Thiruvannamalai, he happens to see 2 frogs at the Nandhi Mandapam standing on their hind limbs and worshipping lord Annamalayar. He understood from his gnana dhristi that these 2 frogs have been on penance and have been jumping all the way from Mamandur to reach Thiruvannamalai to worship lord Annamalayar. It is also said as the frogs which are called Maduka in Sanskrit have come from this village, it has got its name Mamandur.

This village got its name due to Manduga Maharishi, he did penance here and got the darshan of Lord Shiva. The moolavar Picheeswarar got his name because of Saraswathy Devi. Goddess Saraswathy has worshipped the Lord Shiva here with Pichi poo (A type of jasmine) . Hence those who want to excel in studies should worship this Lord on Moolam , Punarpoosam Nakshatra or on a Wednesday will gain progress gradually in their studies.

Those with mental ailments comes here and worship this Lord for cureness . Offering of vetrilai maalai (betel leaves) to this Lord is considered sacred and to cure the illness . Usually vetrilai maalai we offer only to Lord Hanuman.

Contact: One kala pujai happens daily and the temple opens by 6:30 am. The kurukal Sri Karthik can be reached at 9894026983.
