A Chola period temple which easily looks to be around 1000 plus years old. It is said that when the Chola kings have built over 108 shiva trmples in and around this part of Kanchipuram. It is said that the lord has been worshipped by the elephant of lord Indran called Airavatham, hence the moolavar here is called Airavatesvarar.
Swamy is facing east and Ambal is facing south. The Vimanam and the grabhagraham is in gajabrishta form which is style that most of the Chola temples are built in this belt. In the prakaram there is a separate Sannidhi for Selva Vinagar and Subramania swamy with valli deivayanai and also for Navagrahas.
