Moolavar: Sri Agastheeswarar

A beautiful village which was earlier called as Pudhu Agraharam and in later days when a Buddha statue was found during excavations the name was changed to Puthagaram. Not much is known from a historical importance about this village and temple in Kancheepuram, but for sure must have been a very prosperous village in those years. But it is said that the manuscript about this temple is on palm leaves kept in the Kanchi Mutt.
The moolavar Sri Agastheeswarar was found below a tree here and later the villagers got a small temple built for their daily worship. The Ambal is known as Thenmozhiamman which means someone with a voice as sweet as honey.
It seems that this was a parihara sthalam and visiting this temple devotees are blessed with an opportunity to visit Kashi.
