The Kaalakandeeswarar Temple, located in Kunnam (part of the Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu), is an ancient temple known to over 800 years old. It is part of the legendary 108 Shiva temples surrounding the historic city of Kanchipuram.
While exact historical records for this specific temple is not clearly known, The temple is often associated with the Mahakalanathar lineage of temples, tying it to the mythology of Sage Matanga and his daughter Rajamadangi. Temples in this region typically feature inscriptions and structural layers dating back to the Chola and Vijayanagara periods. The presiding deity is Lord Kalakandeswarar facing east and Goddess Tripurasundari faces South in the Mahamandapam.
The temple has a beautiful temple tank known as Aandi kolam and there is one Sivalingam on the banks of the tank to which people offer water daily.
