Sri Adhilingeshwarar Temple, Chengelpattu

Moolavar: Sri Adhilingeshwarar
Amman: Sri Adhishakthi
Place:  Aathur, Chengelpet, Chennai

One of the 7 shiva temples in the Aathur area is this Sri Adhilingeshwarar. A very small temple and lord shiva is facing west which apparently happened so as they could not get enough land to construct a larger temple facing the east.

The sivalingam was buried in the ground in middle of sugarcane farm and been there for many years. The sivalingam could possibly be few close to 1000 years.

It is belived that Chandra Bhagwan has prayed to this lord along with Rohini Nakshathram and hence the old name of the lord is Sri Chandramouleshwarar and Ambal was known as Chandranayagi.

In 2009 they have done the Kumbhabhishekam for this temple. There is no separate Sannidhi for Ambal as they have not yet found the am Ambal vigraham which is belived to be still buried somewhere in the field. So a smal Ambal vigraham is placed next to the shivalingam within the grabhagraham.

The Ghosta murthies have an interesting background each one of them have been in houses of localities who have been performing regular puja for them. So when the temple was constructed, each one of them have given these murthies to be installed around the ghostam.

Temple opens by 5:30 A.M
