When lord Shiva was getting Married to Godess Parvathi, all the devas, Rishis and Gandharvas went to ‘Kailash’ to view this great Thirukalyanam due to which, the Northern side of the Earth sank.
To level this , Lord Shiva sent sage Agasthiya to the Southern side of the Earth. Sage Agasthiya came to the Southern side of Earth and installed 108 Lingas and performed pooja. Lord Thulaseeswarar is one of the 108 Lingas.

Sage Agasthiyar has performed abishekam to the Lord Thulaseeswarar by erecting a Thadagam and performed poojas with Konnai Malar and thulasithalam. That day was Puratasi Powrnami.
