Moolavar: Sri Otteeswarar
Amman: Sri Mangalambikai Amman
Place: Ottiampakkam
The history has it that once the Pallava King with a group of his people were taking this huge Sivalingam to be set in another place. When they reached this place it was late evening they decided to take rest for the night and start again the next day morning. So they placed the sivalingam here and slept. The next day morning when they got up and tried lifting the lord it got stuck to the ground and was not able to move. Hence the lord was called Otteeswarar meaning the lord who got stuck to this place. This place was called Pakkam and because of the name of the lord became Ottiampakkam
Otteeswarar is a giant linga with all charm. In all of Chennai you can never say such a huge Avudayar (the circumference around the linga banam). Also the Avudayar is in the form of a lotus which is also very rare to see. Goddess Mangalambikai faces south in standing posture and all parivara Devathas are available in this Temple. This Temple has a Kubera lingam facing south.
This temple is located very near to the Ottiampakkam bus terminus. Baanam is little big. Moolavar vimanam is Gajabrushta type. In koshtam, Narthana Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahma and Durgai are located. Sannadhi for Ganapathy, Valli Devasena Sametha Siva Subramaniyar, Nagars, Kubera Lingam, Kaalabairavar and Navagrahas (written as Nava Thevars) are located in this Temple. Regular poojas are conducted. No Tamil inscriptions are found to assess the age of the temple. Temple Pond is maintained neatly.
