Sri UthiraVaidhyalingeswarar Temple, Kattur

Moolavar: Sri Uthira Vaidhyalingeswarar
Amman: Sri Thaiyal Nayaki Ambal
Place: Kattur, Kanchipuram

This is an ancient temple and the Shiva linga is considered to be installed by Sage Agasthiyar.
The temple is considered equivalent to Vaitheeswaran koil and so is being called Uthra Vaitheeswaran koil. This Temple is a Parihara sthalam for Chevvai. There is a temple pond called Agasthiyar pond located in the Temple. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Balamurugan, Adhi Lakshmi, Navagrahas and Bairavar.

With passage of time, the temple fell into ruins and based on a sage advice the local villagers got together to resurrect the temple, for which the kumbhabhishekam was done on 2004.
The local villagers assume this temple to be around 1200 years old, and since the ceiling of the temple has a fish sculpture, they also believe that the Pandya's may have been part of the upkeep of the temple over the years.

The villagers also feel it is as significant as the Vaitheeswaran Temple near Kumbakonam, and since it is in the north direction to it, the name Uthira (North) Vaithiyalingeshwarar.

A sevvai parihara sthalam, worth visiting.

Information boards about this temple, are placed near the Tiruporur murugan temple and on the road from Tiruporur to Chengalpet.
