Sri Muthupureeswarar Temple, Aathur

Moolavar: Sri Muthupureeswarar
Amman: Sri Angayarkanni Ambal
Place: Aathur, Chengelpet

A 1200 year old built by Paranthaka Chola.Around 10 years ago the sivalingam was found under the earth and the shivanadiyar and villagers decided to build the temple. After the bhoomi puja was performed a snake came around a  particular place and circled the place and went. When they dug the place with JCB they also found the Ambal vigraham and now have built a temple for both.

They have also excavated a stone inscription based on which the time period of the temple has been confirmed as 1200 years.

Nagadevar or snake worship has been belived to be performed in this village from a long time and even today it’s believed that snakes are protecting this place

Recently a year ago kumbhabhishekam has been done to this temple.
