A beautiful temple which seems to have been built by the Pandiya kings over a 1000 years ago. It is said that a Rishi named ‘Karkodaga Maharishi’ got this sivalingam from Kasi ( The lingam here exactly resemble the one in Kasi) and erected it here.
We can see the fish carved in the roof symbolising that the temple of Pandya era. Every pillar arothere has beautiful sculptures. The inner prakaram has at the entrance two sculptures one of Garudalvar and one Anjaneyar which is very unique in a Shiva temple.
The Ambal Sannidhi is within the inner prakaram and also we can also see Pillayar, Murugan and a Sannidhi for Navagraham withinthe inner prakaram.
The Mandapam near the kodi maram has some beautiful carvings and sculptures.There is a separate Sannidhi for Sani Bhagwan in this temple.
The temple opened from 7 am onwards till 11:30 am and in the evening from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
A must visit temple and is located at Nazarathpettai which is on the poonamali-Bangalore highway road
